Washington Lottery urges players to check tickets as $420K prize nears expiration

A $420,000 HIT 5 prize is still unclaimed in Washington, and the winning ticket is set to expire in less than two weeks.

Washington’s Lottery said the ticket was purchased at the Chevron at 5801 Pioneer St. in Ridgefield and expires June 7.

Players who believe they may have the winning ticket must claim the prize at one of Washington’s Lottery regional offices by 5 p.m. on the Friday before the ticket expires because lottery offices are closed on weekends.

The lottery said more than $9 million in unclaimed prizes are set to expire in the coming months. There are currently 12 large prizes valued at $10,000 or more, totaling $9.015 million, that are set to expire soon.

Among the unclaimed prizes are three other large HIT 5 prizes: a $100,000 prize and a $115,000 prize that will expire in July, and a $110,000 prize that will expire in November. An $8.2 million Lotto prize from a ticket purchased in Bellingham is set to expire in late July.

Winning players have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize, according to Washington’s Lottery. For Scratch tickets, winners have 180 days from the last day of ticket sales to claim their prize.

By law, prizes that aren’t claimed are placed into a reserve account. Each June, the surplus in the reserve account is transferred to the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, which supports education in Washington state, including college students and early childhood education programs.
