“Peter Hill, our treasurer and I put the application in and I am sure we are one of the first organisations to receive funding from the National Lottery in Inverkip but we have members from all across Inverclyde.”
“The funds will be used to expand and strengthen our walking football program, so that more people across Inverclyde can benefit from regular physical activity, social connection and improved well being.”

“They’re a bunch of great guys, we’ve had some social events as well. My wife Ver thinks it’s great – until I come home with a scraped knee.”

He quipped: “We both got a perm for this photo.
“It’s been great fun, a great crowd of people, they are cheery, happy and very considerate of each other.
“I used to play for Gourock YAC’s Old Crocs, St Andrew’s University team, and for the Pontifical Scots College in Rome, we won the Football University Shield, just before Celtic won the European Cup in 1967.”

In the last few years the club has also widened its remit by working with local health groups to promote awareness of cancer research, mental health, diabetes, prostate, pancreatic and skin cancer.
As a direct result of these awareness sessions, several players were able to identify the early stages of prostate cancer and seek early treatment.
The club has up to 60 players who participate on a weekly basis and benefit from the physical fitness, mental health and social relationships.
Mike said: “Our mission is to continue to promote the benefits of regular exercise, social interaction and health awareness with partnering with local health charities.
“The club aims to celebrate its 10th birthday by working with Morton in the Community to arrange a Walking Football Festival and other health awareness activities for the local community.
