Union County grandma scores big with $150,000 scratch-off ticket – AOL

UNION COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Union County grandmother is celebrating after turning a $5 lottery ticket into a $150,000 prize.

Vivian Legette of Monroe bought a Jungle Cashword scratch-off ticket from the Food Lion on East Roosevelt Boulevard and realized she had something special.

“At first I thought I won $5,000,” Legette recalled. “Then my granddaughter checked it for me, and she said, ‘Grandma, you’ve got 10 numbers!’”

Legette said she picked the ticket because she enjoys crossword games and noticed the new scratch-off had just been released.

She claimed her prize on Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After state and federal taxes, she took home $108,016.

Legette plans to use the money to pay bills and help her family.
