Three thousand names to be announced in first round of Australian visa lottery – ABC Pacific

Next Wednesday, thousands of Pacific Islanders will pin their hopes for a better life in Australia on a random visa lottery.

Just 3,000 names will be drawn from more than 61,000 people expected to put themselves forward in this round of the Pacific Engagement Visa.

“The main reason why I actually put my name up for the PEV is only for the potential future that my child can have,” said said Papua New Guinean digital marketer Dean Arek, who has no hesitation about entering this year’s ballot for the Pacific Engagement Visa 

“It’s a cheat code for Papua New Guineans who want to get into Australia. What do you have to lose? If you give it a crack, it’s a ballot system. It’s one of the cheapest ways,” he added.
