Southport man wins $100K on scratch-off ticket

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A Southport man turned a $30 scratch-off into a $100,000 prize through the North Carolina Education Lottery.

William Everett purchased the winning $100,000 Cash Payday ticket at Rosie’s Gas & Grill on Long Beach Road in Southport.

The $100,000 Cash Payday scratch-off launched in March. Of the game’s 80 top prizes, 61 remain unclaimed, lottery officials said.

Everett claimed his prize at lottery headquarters Wednesday and took home $72,018 after required state and federal tax withholdings.
