SLED charges 2 Chesterfield Co. women with lottery fraud

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged two women with lottery fraud last Thursday, according to a news release.

Darlene F. Helms, 67, and Yoisha Renee Merrell Chambers, 47, were both charged with intent to defraud, counterfeit game tickets.

Between March 11 and 18, warrants said Helms and Chambers redeemed stolen tickets for cash prizes of around $11,478.

Their actions were caught on video, according to warrants.

The release said the South Carolina Education Lottery requested the SLED investigation.

Helms and Merrell Chambers were booked into the Chesterfield County Detention Center.

ThIS case will be prosecuted by the 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, according to the release.
