Saturday Powerball drawing offers $856 million jackpot after rollover

The Powerball jackpot has grown once again after Wednesday night’s drawing ended without a grand prize winner, giving lottery players another shot at one of the largest prizes in the game’s history.

While no ticket matched all six numbers to win the jackpot, one ticket matched the five white balls to win $1 million prizes. That winning ticket was sold in Ohio.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play. Players choose five numbers from 1 through 69 and one red Powerball number from 1 through 26, or they can opt for a Quick Pick to have the numbers selected randomly. For an additional $1, players can add the Power Play feature, which multiplies eligible non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times, depending on the multiplier selected for that drawing.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9.

If a player wins the jackpot, they can choose between the advertised annuity prize or a one-time lump-sum cash payment, with both options subject to federal and any applicable state taxes. The annuity is paid as one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.

The current jackpot is among the largest in Powerball history, though it remains below the game’s record prize of $2.04 billion, won by a single ticket sold in California in November 2022.
