Rocky Mount man’s longtime lottery prediction pays off with $100,000 win

A Rocky Mount man who spent years telling friends he would someday win $100,000 in the lottery can now say his prediction came true.
Donald Bunn won the top prize on a $30 $100,000 Cash Payday scratch-off ticket Saturday after purchasing it at Dabney Speed EZS Mart on Western Boulevard in Tarboro.
Bunn claimed the $100,000 prize Monday at North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $72,018.
Lottery officials said Bunn is considering using the money toward the purchase of a home.
The winning ticket came from the $100,000 Cash Payday scratch-off game, which launched in March with 80 top prizes worth $100,000 each. Officials say 65 top prizes remain available statewide.
In addition to creating winners, lottery proceeds help fund projects across North Carolina. In Edgecombe County, lottery funds helped secure a $62 million grant for school construction projects that support local students and families.
