Powerball player in California wins big as $143 million national jackpot hit

A Powerball ticket sold in California fell just one number short of winning the $143 million jackpot, lottery officials said.

Instead, the lucky ticket was worth $745,393.

The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Wednesday, April 29, the California State Lottery said.

California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.

Tickets sold in Indiana and Kansas won the $143 million jackpot.

Where was winning Powerball ticket sold in California?

The lucky ticket was sold at Dales Jr. market at 8105 W. Manchester Ave. in Playa del Rey, which is about 30 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles, lottery officials said.

Dozens of tickets sold across the United States won $1 million and $2 million prizes, the national Powerball site said.

The winning numbers were 3, 19, 35, 51 and 67 with a Powerball of 15.
