Pakistani woman wins $1 million after buying a Dubai Duty Free lottery ticket for the very first time, turning a casual purchase into a life-changing moment. The winner, 38-year-old chartered accountant Hira Nayyer, became the 29th Pakistani national to claim the grand prize in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire promotion.
According to Nayyer, she decided to purchase the ticket online on July 3 after a colleague mentioned the Dubai Duty Free promotion during a conversation at work. Having never heard of the lottery before, she visited the website, bought a single ticket and hoped for the best.
Just a few days later, Nayyer was watching the live draw from her office when she heard her ticket number announced. She recalled freezing in disbelief as the winning number appeared on screen, saying she could hardly believe she had become a millionaire with her very first ticket.
Despite the life-changing win, Nayyer said she has only shared the news with her fiancé and is taking time to decide how to use the prize money. Rather than making impulsive purchases, she plans to invest wisely and fulfil a long-held dream of owning a home.
She explained that she and her fiancé have always worked hard and managed their finances responsibly, but buying a house had remained one of her biggest goals. Nayyer said she is now considering purchasing either a villa in Dubai or a home in Pakistan, depending on what best suits their future plans.
The accountant described the unexpected windfall as more than just financial security, saying it offers an opportunity to build a stable future for herself and her family. She added that she wants to make thoughtful decisions with the money rather than rushing into major investments.
Dubai Duty Free’s Millennium Millionaire promotion has created numerous winners from around the world over the years, with Pakistanis among its frequent recipients. Nayyer’s victory adds another name to the growing list of Pakistani winners in the popular draw.
