One lucky Texan may be holding a jackpot-winning lottery ticket — and not even know it.
The ticket was sold at Gordon’s Bait & Tackle in Brownsville and matched the winning numbers: 7, 17, 23, 28, 39 and 48.
The winner has until May 14 to claim the prize. To do so, they must call the Texas Lottery to schedule an appointment and appear in person at lottery headquarters in Austin.
Lottery officials say the winner chose a cash option when purchasing the ticket and would receive nearly $44 million before taxes.
In most cases, winning tickets expire 180 days after the drawing. Some exceptions apply for certain military personnel.
Unclaimed winnings are returned to state programs authorized by the Texas Legislature, including public education and veterans services.
