One Texan just hit the $41M jackpot. Here’s how they plan to spend it.
A Richardson resident wins $41 million from a Texas Lottery scratch-off ticket in May 2026 and says they plan to spend it on traveling and their grandchildren.
A North Texan has big plans after striking it rich. After snagging a $41 million Lotto Texas ticket, the local has shared what they plan to spend it on.
The player lives in Richardson, a suburb of Dallas, according to a Monday, May 4 press release from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). However, they purchased the winning card at a 7-Eleven Convenience Store in Mesquite, roughly 23 minutes away from their hometown. The gas station is located at 3700 Interstate Highway 30.
While the claimant has chosen to keep their identity a secret, they spoke with Texas Lottery officials, saying they discovered their newfound wealth after watching the live drawing on Monday, April 20. The numbers pulled that night were 21, 28, 33, 34, 43, and 44. The customer had a Quick Pick ticket and matched all six of the figures. The livestream drawings for this game happen on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:12 p.m. CT.
“We haven’t missed a Lotto Texas drawing in 30 years,” the anonymous claimant said in a press release, adding that their spouse checked the ticket several times to ensure it was correct.
“I stayed up all night thinking about it,” they said.
Because the Richardson individual selected the cash value option at the time of purchase, they received $22,574,163.57 before taxes, per the TDLR. They told officials they are excited about spending some of the funds on their children and grandchildren. Other portions of it will also be used to travel.
“There’s a whole world out there I need to see,” they said in a press release.
It took a good amount of time for the jackpot to become a double-digit win. It was first advertised at $5 million for the drawing on November 17, 2025, according to the Texas Lottery. There were 66 drawings before the final one last month.
A customer selects six out of 54 numbers on their purchased card. They can also select the “Extra!” add-on feature for an opportunity to get an additional $10,000 on non-jackpot prizes, but they must spend $1 more per play. Afterwards, they can tune into the weekly livestreams to see if their numbers were drawn.
