Mom’s convenience store stop to get snack for daughter ends in $200,000 lottery win

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WKRC) — A North Carolina woman won a big lottery jackpot after a quick stop at a convenience store to get her daughter a snack.

In July, Ebony Jacobs went to the PMG Short Stop in Fayetteville for the snack and also bought herself a $5 Mega Bucks scratch-off ticket. After going back to her truck, she played the ticket and found she had won the game’s top prize of $200,000.

“Playing the lottery is my happy place,” Jacobs said in a North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) press release. “I had to put my other glasses on to check it because I was just in shock. My heart was racing.”

After taxes, Jacobs collected $144,021. She says she’s going to use the winnings to buy a new car and treat her family to a vacation.

The NCEL says the Mega Bucks game launched in June with five $200,000 prizes. As of July 31, three of those prizes were still available.
