Mom who won $10m lottery jackpot poisoned by husband after she gave $1.4M to secret son – AOL
A woman’s lottery dream turned into a deadly nightmare when her multi-million dollar windfall ultimately led to her murder in her own home.
Ibi Roncaioli was 54 years old when she and her friend won $10 million in a Canadian lottery, splitting the jackpot between them. Walking away with $5 million, Ibi chose to share her winnings with her family, a decision that would ultimately prove fatal.
Ibi gave a large amount of money away to her children, which she did not disclose to her husband, and when he found out he was engraged with anger, reports Daily Star.
It comes after a husband’s secret action before his death blocked his wife from claiming a $40,000 lottery win.

Ibi had given $590,000 to each of her two sons, who were living in the house with her and her hsuabnd Dr. Joseph Roncaioli.
On top of that, she secretly gifted $1.4 million to a third son, whose very existence was unknown to everyone, including her other two children.
The situation took a devastating turn when Joseph eventually discoverd his wife had a secret son and she had gifted him a large amount of money without his knowing. Following a bitter, jealousy-fueled confrontation, Joseph fatally poisoned Ibi by injecting her with painkillers.
During the subsequent court proceedings, prosecutors alleged that Joseph had been drinking and acting erratically on the day he administered the lethal injection, and had failed to seek medical assistance for his wife.
Rather than contacting emergency services, Joseph instead called his bookkeeper and a real estate agent.
Prosecutors contended that his motive stemmed from fury over Ibi’s perceived financial recklessness and her failure to set aside sufficient funds to secure their retirement.
His defense team also argued that the woman had struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, which they claimed would have been an “intervening cause” of her death. An autopsy revealed needle marks across her legs and feet, as well as six ounces of alcohol in her blood.
It subsequently came to light that Ibi had led a largely secretive life, with the couple living separate lives under the same roof, while Ibi spent considerable time away at slot machines.
Joseph was found guilty of manslaughter in 2008.
At sentencing, presiding judge Justice Ferguson told the court that the crime “more resembles murder than an accidental killing,” and declared: “It was intentional, not spontaneous.”
The most public comments came from the couple’s shared son, Joseph Roncaioli Jr., who testified extensively during his father’s 2008 manslaughter trial. Surprisingly, he defended his father, stating under oath that he did not believe Dr. Joseph Roncaioli would ever purposefully harm his mother.
The son from Ibi’s previous relationship—who had grown up in the house with Joseph Sr. acting as his stepfather—chose to stay largely out of the media spotlight and did not offer public statements defending or attacking his stepfather.
The third son, who received the largest sum of $1.4 million, was completely unaware of his half-brothers’ existence, just as they were unaware of his. Because he had been raised entirely outside of the Roncaioli household, he remained disconnected from the family drama and did not issue public statements regarding the murder or the trial.
Meanwhile, a man who won $3.6 million in the lottery says his girlfriend swiped money and dumped him for a new partner.
