Michigan woman stops for pizza, wins record-setting lottery jackpot

LANSING, MI — A stop for some pizza during her lunch break brought in a different type of dough for a Shelby Township woman recently as she won a record-breaking $822,159 Club Keno The Jack prize.

Sue Strong, 65, won the massive prize by playing the Club Keno bonus game The Jack, in Club Keno draw 2569809.

“I regularly play Club Keno, and I always add The Jack to my ticket,” Strong said. “I went out and bought a Club Keno ticket and pizza on my lunch break and then watched the drawings on my phone while I ate. When I saw all my The Jack numbers come in and the jackpot reset to $10,000, I was shocked! It was nerve wracking and exciting, and to be honest, I’ve hardly slept since!”

The $822,159 jackpot is largest The Jack prize ever won in Michigan.

Strong’s easy pick The Jack numbers — 10-26-33-50-56-58-60-67-70 — matched nine of the 20 drawn in the Club Keno drawing to win the prize. Strong bought her ticket at Party Palace Liquor Inc, located at 49133 Schoenherr Road in Shelby Township.

The Jack is a bonus game available for every Club keno draw. Players who play The Jack are assigned nine easy pick numbers to match to the Club Keno numbers drawn. Players may win prizes ranging from $1 to the jackpot.

The jackpot starts at $10,000 and grows until it is won. To win the jackpot, players must match all nine numbers. Club Keno players can add The Jack for $1 per drawing.

Strong visited Lottery headquarters in Lansing recently to claim her prize. With her winnings, she plans on paying bills, sharing with family and saving the remainder.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed an $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.

And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a Powerball winner worth $250,000 sold in Bloomfield Hills in 2024 went unclaimed. That money went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
