Mega Millions, Powerball jackpots combine for more than $1.1 billion

RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) – Lottery players have a chance to win two major jackpots this week.

The North Carolina Education Lottery has announced that the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots total more than $1.1 billion.

“The Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots are both higher than we have seen all year,” said Mark Michalko, chief executive officer of the N.C. Education Lottery.

Tonight’s Mega Millions drawing offers a $637 million annuity or a $278 million cash option.

Wednesday’s Powerball drawing offers a $498 million annuity or a $221 million cash option.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 290 million, while the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
