The player, who has chosen to remain anonymous, but who bought the Millionaire Club Instant Ticket under the name Lucky, bought the winning ticket at a Mobil Gas station in DuPage County.

They didn’t grab a winning ticket at first, but after a gut feeling, they bought a second one, which turned out to be the winner.

The Illinois player recounted their lotto victory, and shared that they were used to big wins.

They commented: “I just celebrated my birthday a few weeks ago, so this win feels like the perfect gift.

“It’s especially exciting since I bought the ticket at a store I visit regularly.

“I scratched off the ticket during a break at work and boom—I won.

“I come to this store often, and I’m close friends with the staff here.

“They were thrilled when I shared the good news with them.

“I play the lottery often and have won about 20 other times, with prizes ranging from $1,000-$5,000.”

The player plans to invest their newfound fortune into the family and buy a new home.

Lucky lottery numbers – fact or fiction?

The U.S. Sun spoke exclusively with professor of mathematics at Davidson College, Tim Chartier, who revealed the truth behind lucky numbers.

Scooping up a jackpot prize in a lottery game such as Powerball or Mega Millions involves correctly guessing a series of numbers.

Many players swear by certain numbers, sticking with digits such as birthdays, anniversaries, or ages – but do these numbers statistically carry the luck that players believe they do?

According to Chartier, they do.

“I think a number is lucky if you have fun playing it and it improves your experience of winning,” he said.

“The big lotteries are, statistically speaking, a chance to dream of being a multi-millionaire or even billionaire. If playing a certain number heightens that experience, then yes!”

However, the lottery expert clarified that aside from the feel-good implications of playing your “lucky numbers,” no number is truly lucky when it comes to the lottery.

“All numbers are equally likely,” said Chartier.

He explained that even though all numbers are equally likely, some may seem to appear more often.

For example, rolling a six-sided die six times does not guarantee that you will roll each number exactly once.

They also plan to donate a chunk of it to a local hospital.

The Chicago retailer that sold the winning ticket will also benefit from a 1% payment of the prize amount, which totals $10,000.
