License plate numbers from old car earn $50,000 lottery prize – UPI.com

May 11 (UPI) — A Maryland woman said the license plate numbers on an old car her husband refuses to get rid of ended up winning her a $50,000 lottery prize.

The St. Mary’s County woman told Maryland Lottery officials her husband has an old car in the driveway that she considers to be an eyesore and has been urging him to get rid of.

She said she was looking at the five-digit number on the old car’s license plate recently when she decided to try playing the numbers in Pick 5 lottery drawings.

The woman had been using the numbers for more than a year when a ticket she bought from Atrium Spirits on Mohawk Drive earned her the $50,000 prize.

The winner said her prize money will go toward paying bills and spoiling her grandchildren.

She said she plans to continue playing the lottery.

“I just stick to Pick 5. That is my game,” she said.
