What is the Karunya Lottery, anyway?

If you’ve never bought a Karunya ticket, here’s what it’s about. Karunya is a weekly lottery conducted every Saturday by the Kerala State Lottery Department.

Each ticket costs just ₹50 and carries the prefix “KR.” The first prize is ₹1 Crore, the second is ₹25 Lakh, and the third is ₹10 Lakh.

A consolation prize of ₹5,000 is also awarded.

Beyond the top prizes, there are multiple lower tiers: the fourth prize offers ₹5,000, the fifth ₹2,000, the sixth ₹1,000, the seventh ₹500, the eighth ₹200, and the ninth ₹100.

How to check and claim your prize

Got a ticket? Here’s what to do:

– Cross-check first. Winners are advised to verify their numbers with the results published in the Kerala Government Gazette before doing anything else.

– Sign the back of your ticket immediately.

– Small amounts (under ₹5,000): can be collected directly from any authorized lottery shop in Kerala.

– Larger prizes: ticket holders must submit their tickets at a bank or government lottery office along with valid identification proof.

– Time limit: winners must surrender their tickets within 90 days.

One more thing worth knowing: the Kerala Lottery deducts 30% tax from the total prize amount. So the ₹1 Crore winner will take home around ₹70 Lakh after taxes. Still life-changing money.

The next Karunya draw KR-754 will be held on May 16, 2026, again at Gorky Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram. Tickets are already out there.

If today wasn’t your day, there’s always next Saturday. And the Saturday after that.

Note: Always play responsibly. Kerala Lottery tickets are legal only when purchased from authorised sellers. Online ticket sales are illegal.
