How 18 New Jerseyans won millions playing Powerball
The Powerball $143.4 million jackpot was won by lottery players in Kansas and Indiana, but incredibly a record 18 New Jerseyans also became millionaires in the Wednesday, April 29 drawing thanks to a unique betting style, the New Jersey Lottery announced.
In addition to two tickets matching all six numbers for the jackpot, an unheard of 62 tickets nationwide matched the five white balls to win million-dollar prizes. Twenty-seven won $2 million with the Power Play, including four from New Jersey.
The winning Powerball numbers for the April 29 drawing were: 03, 19, 35, 51 and 67 with Powerball: 15 and multiplier: 02.
New Jersey Lottery officials said that “the unusually high number of winners appears to have resulted from many players selecting their numbers from a single vertical column on their play slips, a pattern that exists across multiple state lottery play slips.”
Sixty-two lottery players won million-dollar prizes by playing five numbers in a row, down the lottery slip.
The NJ Lottery said in all of 2025, there were only 13 second-tier winners who matched five numbers. The odds of matching 5 of 69 white balls are approximately 1 in 11 million, the agency said.
