Meanwhile, the Lotto jackpot was won twice in a week this month.
A single ticket-holder scooped more than £5m in Wednesday’s draw by matching all six main numbers.
Andy Carter, senior winners’ adviser at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, said: “Wow, what a fantastic start to the year it’s been.
“A single player has banked the £5 million jackpot in tonight’s draw.
“That makes it two huge Wednesday Lotto jackpot wins in a week after another lucky Lotto player landed the £13 million ‘Must Be Won’ jackpot last Wednesday (14 January).
“If you’ve played, please check your tickets and get in touch if you think you’re a big winner.
“Playing any National Lottery game is about so much more than the chance to win – it’s about helping to make a real difference.
“Every week, players raise around £32 million for projects that change lives across the UK.”
