On May 2, 2026, two Powerball tickets in Florida and Texas matched to win $20 million. The Kissimmee, Florida, winner took cash option of $4.4 million.
A $2 ticket in Florida and Texas made two Powerball players multimillionaires.
Because as they say in the lottery business, “it could happen to you.”
Both winners have come forward to claim their windfall since the Saturday, May 2, 2026, Powerball drawing for $20 million. Powerball’s site states the odds of winning the game’s jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338. But while the pair of winners earned bragging rights to say they won a $20 million lottery jackpot, neither is taking home close to the total advertised.
Here’s why and how much they took home.
Who won $20 million Powerball in Florida and Texas on Saturday, May 2, 2026?
In the Saturday, May 2, 2026, Powerball lottery drawing for $20 million, with a cash option estimated at $9 million, a ticket from Kissimmee, Florida, and Leander, Texas, matched all five numbers plus the Powerball. The winning Powerball numbers were 25-37-42-52-65 and the Powerball was 14. Power Play was 3x.
According to the Florida Lottery, La Caribena Grocery and Restaurant, 131 Buena Ventura Blvd., Kissimmee, Florida, sold the winning quick pick ticket here. The winner, who also is from Kissimmee, according to the state’s lottery organization, claimed their half of the $20 million as a one-time, lump sum cash prize of $4,488,330.34. The winner will briefly remain anonymous as the “names of lottery winners claiming prizes of $250,000 or greater will be temporarily exempt from public disclosure for 90 days from the date the prize is claimed, unless otherwise waived by the winner,” Florida Lottery rules state.
The Florida Lottery issues commissions to retailers who sell jackpot-winning tickets, but it wasn’t known how much La Caribena Grocery and Restaurant in Kissimmee earned as of Monday, June 8, 2026.
In a May 27, 2026, news release, the Texas Lottery said a Leander resident claimed their half of the $20 million Powerball with a quick pick ticket from QuikTrip, 10742 E. Crystal Falls Parkway, Leander, Texas.
Powerball players in Texas must select the annual payments or cash value option at the time of ticket purchase.
The Texas Lottery player, who elected to remain anonymous, opted for the cash, receiving $4,488,330.34 before taxes.
“I’m not a regular lottery player, but I saw on a billboard that there had recently been a big jackpot, so the next morning when I stopped in at QuikTrip for a coffee, I bought a Powerball ticket,” the Texas winner said in the news release. “A few days later we were out running errands when I noticed the ticket in my wallet and I thought to myself, ‘I need to check that so I can toss it’. Only, this time when I checked it, I saw that I’d won. I was stunned. When my (spouse) returned to the car (they) asked me, ‘Are you OK?’ and I told (them), ‘I think we’ve won the lottery.’”
The Texas Lottery news release continues to say the claimant said “their spouse thought they were overreacting, but the couple checked the numbers three more times and then placed the ticket in a safe when they got home. The claimant added: “We’re planning to save the money for the time being until we decide what we want to do with it.”
In addition, the QuikTrip convenience store in Leander, Texas, may be eligible to receive a $250,000 retailer bonus, the Texas Lottery states.

In addition to the grand prize winners for the Saturday, May 2, 2026, Powerball drawing, there was one other big winner: A ticket purchased in Georgia matched five numbers plus the Power Play for a $2 million prize. According to the Georgia Lottery, the second-tier Powerball prize has not been claimed as of Monday, June 8, 2026.
Does Walmart sell lottery tickets? Where to buy lottery tickets in Florida
In Florida, most gas stations and some grocery stores sell lottery tickets. It’s harder to find a gas station that doesn’t sell Powerball, Mega Millions, Florida Lottery and scratch-off tickets than it is to find one that does.
Publix also sells lottery tickets and is known for selling many winning tickets. A lesser-known location is Walmart. Whether the Walmart location closest to you sells lottery tickets depends on your state and the store. Many Walmart locations in Florida have self-service lottery ticket vending machines or sell lottery tickets at the customer service desk.
You can use the “Where to Play” search tool on the Florida Lottery website to find a grocery store or gas station near you that sells lottery tickets.
