First thing man did after $1.2m Keno win

An Adelaide man has sought financial advice after winning more than $1.2m in a Keno jackpot draw.

The man, from Royal Park in the city’s inner west, said his new fortune would be “life-changing” and described the moment he realised his Keno spot 10 entry was a winner.

“I had no idea,” he said.

“I had just left the venue when I remembered to check my ticket. I had a look online and saw all the numbers.

“I quickly raced back to see if it was really true and it was.”

Coming from a group of “random” numbers, the man said he was thankful for his new $1,244,714.30 prize.

He described the feeling as “surreal” and said he had sought advice for the best way to spend his new winnings.

“It’s completely life-changing. We’ve already seen a financial adviser so we can set ourselves up,” he said.

“Once it all settles and it feels real, we’ll be able to have more of an idea of what we’ll do.”

The ticket was purchased from Seven 22, a local club in Beverley, with club manager Kelli Pearce saying all the chefs came out to celebrate the win with the man.

“It was so exciting! We couldn’t believe it and even all the chefs came out to celebrate,” she said.

“Even the person that sold it thought the win was $12,000, but it was a lot more than that!”

Meanwhile, in Queensland, a Hervey Bay woman shared a $40m Oz Lotto jackpot prize.

The woman checked her ticket on the way to work on Thursday morning and was shocked to discover the value was greater than she originally expected.

“I just came into the store this morning to check my ticket and saw that someone had won, but they didn’t know who because it wasn’t registered,” she said.

“I initially thought they said I’d won $20,000 but then realised there were a few more digits.”

The woman shared the victory with a Hobart man, with both winners taking home $20m.

She said the money would be a “massive boost to my family” but would still keep working despite her new millionaire status.

“I just can’t believe it. I’m not sure I can walk at the moment. My whole body is shaking,” she said.

Another Brisbane winner, who scored $1,086,418.14 in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw, also said he would use the money to support his family and friends.

“I’ve used these same numbers for a long time now. This is such a shock,” he said.

“I can do a lot for family and friends … it’ll make life easier for sure.”

Brisbane has had four major lottery wins in the western suburbs this year, with recipients taking home a collective $43m in winnings.
