The Dublin winner of the incredible €8,726,418 Lotto jackpot last month has revealed he found the lucky ticket in his back pocket days after the draw.
The winning Quick Pick ticket for the May 2 draw was purchased at Applegreen on Ballymount Avenue in the M50 Business Park, Dublin 12. This week, the National Lottery welcomed the punter to the Winners Room so he could officially claim his prize.
“It was a couple of days after the draw when I found my Lotto ticket in my back pocket, completely oblivious to what it was worth,” the lucky winner said. “I scanned it on the National Lottery app and when I saw the message, ‘You’ve won big, contact the National Lottery’, I went straight to the results page to check it again. I couldn’t believe it, and honestly, I still can’t.
“It was such a surreal experience – I just kept shaking, I was completely overcome with shock. I’ve been looking forward to handing over the winning ticket. It still doesn’t feel real. I’ve been out walking the roads just to get some fresh air, clear my head and try to take it all in. It’s just been a total whirlwind, even sitting here now, I’m still in shock!”
The Dubliner added: “I’m looking forward to buying a home, so the next step is house hunting. There will definitely be a few sunshine holidays over the next few weeks, it feels like the perfect way to celebrate. I’m also really looking forward to helping family in the future and donating to a charity that’s close to my heart. It’s an incredible position to be in!”
Meanwhile, the National Lottery is continuing to appeal to players in Co. Louth to check their tickets very carefully after one ticketholder won a prize worth €1,000,500 in Saturday night’s (30th May) Lotto draw. As part of Saturday night’s special Lotto Plus Raffle event, one player in Louth saw their prize boosted to over €1 million.
Every ticket with the winning Lotto Plus Raffle number was entered into a once-off random draw, with one ticket selected to receive an additional €1 million on top of the usual €500 Raffle prize. The winning Raffle number was: 8275
