Cruise vacation, home renovations on tap for BC woman after $5M lotto win

British Columbia’s newest millionaire already knows what she wants to do with her life-changing windfall.

Jane D. of Surrey was at the grocery store when she learned that she had won the $5-million Classic Jackpot from the Lotto 6/49 draw on Aug. 8.

“I didn’t know how to react,” she explained of the moment she realized she had won. “The cashier was almost more ecstatic than me!”

Once she wrapped around what had happened, she exited the store and met her husband, waiting in the car, with more than just groceries.

“He didn’t believe me at first, then I showed him the validation slip and he counted the zeroes,” Jane said.

The Surrey woman already has several plans on what to do with the money, including some home renovations, investments and travel.

“I want to go on a trip and get a suite on a cruise!”

She said it’s “very exciting” to become an instant millionaire and noted that she has much more flexibility moving forward.

Although Jane is from Surrey, the winning ticket was purchased at a drug store in Chemainus and validated at a grocery store in Nanaimo.
