An unclaimed R509,925 PowerBall prize is sitting quietly in someone’s banking app and they may not even know it.

Most of us check our banking apps for account balances, debit orders and those sneaky subscriptions we forgot to cancel.

But how often do you scroll back and check old lottery tickets?

Somewhere in South Africa, one Absa customer is just days away from losing out on more than half a million rand.

The winning ticket was purchased through the Absa banking app for the PowerBall draw on 18 July 2025, and it matched the PowerBall 2nd Division numbers.

The winning numbers were:

5, 21, 26, 28, 39

PowerBall: 6

According to the National Lottery’s rules, winners have 365 days to claim their prize. That means the deadline is 18 July 2026.

Today is 16 July 2026, leaving just three days for the lucky winner to come forward.

Once the deadline passes, the money is gone. There are no extensions, exceptions or second chances.

How to check if the R509,925 is yours

If you bought a PowerBall ticket through the Absa banking app around 18 July 2025, it could be worth taking a minute to look back.

Open your app, find your lottery purchase from that period and compare your numbers with the winning combination.

Even if you remember winning a small amount, it’s worth checking again.

Why does this happen

With millions of South Africans buying lottery tickets through banking apps, it’s surprisingly easy to forget you even entered.

Unlike buying a physical ticket, digital entries can disappear into your transaction history, and many players simply never go back to check their results.

Before they know it, the claim period has expired.

So before you carry on with your day, take one last scroll through your banking app.

You never know… your forgotten ticket could still be worth R509,925.

Eish! Imagine discovering you were half a million rand richer… only after the deadline had passed.
