Charlotte Resident Claims $100,000 Powerball Prize, Plans Home Purchase
Erik Cargile from Charlotte scored $100,000 in a Powerball drawing on June 10. He grabbed his $3 Quick Pick ticket at the Quik Trip on West W.T. Harris Boulevard.
Cargile hit four white balls and the red Powerball. That combination earned him $50,000. But his prize jumped to $100,000 because he’d bought a Power Play ticket that drew a 2X multiplier.
He scanned his ticket at a machine. The screen told him to head to headquarters in Raleigh to collect. Cargile didn’t know the exact amount he’d won until he walked through the office doors.
“I was thinking maybe like $10,000,” said Cargile. “It was a shocking feeling when I heard.”
Tuesday morning arrived, and he showed up to claim what was his. Federal and state taxes took their cut. Cargile walked out with $72,011.
He’s putting that money toward a house.
