The closing auction is fine, but the participation isn’t


Closing auctions succeeded globally because institutions actively choose to trade at the close, creating deep and competitive order books. In India, however, participation remains largely voluntary. Without broad institutional participation, even a well-designed auction struggles to produce an efficient closing price.
