The latest report from The Lott and Lotterywest, covering the financial year ending 30 June 2024, has unveiled the nation’s luckiest locales, where dreams turned into million-dollar realities.
An astounding $1.69 billion in division one prize money was won, with a staggering 476 entries hitting the jackpot.
Highlight Stats from the Year:
- Victoria takes the crown with the highest number of division one wins, tallying up to 133 victories.
- New South Wales players reveled in the most prize money, amassing a whopping $679.2 million, notably boosted by colossal Oz Lotto and Powerball jackpots.
- The record for the largest individual win was shattered by a South Australian who bagged an eye-watering $150 million from Powerball in May 2024.
- Across the continent, 344 new millionaires were minted, nearly one for every day of the year, with New South Wales leading by creating 117 millionaires.
Where Fortune Smiles the Brightest:
- Queensland’s Eli Waters/Urraween (4655) and New South Wales’ Sydney CBD (2000) each celebrated four division one wins.
- Melbourne (3000) proved to be a hotspot with four winners stepping forward.
- Burnie, Tasmania (7320), and Salisbury, South Australia (5108) claimed their state’s largest prizes.
- Casuarina, Northern Territory (0810), and Bassendean, Western Australia (6054) also saw top-tier prizes.

“Some players tell us they deliberately pick outlets that have recently sold a major lottery prize in the hope of continuing the winning streak, while other players choose different outlets, believing lightning won’t strike twice.
“While we saw pockets of major lottery prizes across Australian states and territories this year, it’s important to remember that a division one win can land anywhere at any time.
