A Hamden resident just won Connecticut’s biggest lottery prize of June

HAMDEN – A Connecticut resident claimed a top prize of $250,000 Monday from a scratch-off game purchased at a Hamden tobacco shop, according to the CT Lottery.

The Hamden local cashed the biggest lottery prize in Connecticut since the start of June, according to the CT Lottery website.

They purchased the game, called $250,000 Ca$hword, at Smoker’s Discount World on Dixwell Avenue. The odds of winning the top prize of the $250,000 game are 1 in 1.5 million, according to its “how to win” page.

Ca$hword is an instant lottery game meaning prizes are immediately revealed. Players first scratch to reveal a set of 20 letters and hope to match them with corresponding words hidden among three puzzles printed on the ticket. The ticket itself costs $20. That edition of the game ended June 15, according to the CT Lottery site, and the game’s 2nd Edition began Wednesday.

Different Ca$hword games offer varying top prizes, from $100,000 to $250,000.
