2 Mass. lottery players win 1st prizes in new ‘Millionaire for Life’ game

Two lottery players from Massachusetts won some of the first prizes in the first drawing of the new multi-state “Millionaire for Life”game on Sunday.

The first drawing for “Millionaire for Life” was held on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 11:15 p.m. All future drawings for the game will be held every day at that time.

The winning numbers for the first drawing were 1, 30, 48, 54, 58 and Millionaire Ball: 4.

Two players in Massachusetts matched four of the first five numbers to win $500 apiece. They were two of 20 total players to win $500 across the country in the game’s first drawing — the second-highest prize won in its opening round.

The top prize in the game is worth $1 million a year for life, which a player wins if they match all five numbers and the Millionaire Ball. The second-highest prize in the game is worth $100,00 a year for life.

The highest prize won during the first drawing for “Millionaire for Life” on Sunday was worth $7,500. Two tickets sold somewhere in the participating states matched four of the first five numbers and the Millionaire Ball to win that prize.

“Millionaire for Life” was introduced to replace “Lucky for Life,” a 14-year-old multi-state lottery game. The new game has 33 participating lotteries, while “Lucky for Life” had 23 lotteries.

The final “Lucky for Life” drawing was held on Feb. 21. Winners still have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.

Tickets to play “Millionaire for Life” cost $5 each. Since its release in Massachusetts and its five surrounding New England states in March of 2012, along with 17 other state lotteries, “Lucky for Life” tickets cost $2.

In “Millionaire for Life,” players choose five numbers between 1-58 and one number 1-5.

Those who match all six numbers win $1 million a year for life, while those who match the first five numbers win $100,000 a year for life. Players have seven other ways to win $8, $25, $50, $250, $500 and $7,500 prizes.

Massachusetts State Lottery Executive Director Mark William Bracken said the decision to replace “Lucky for Life” was made “in an effort to merge Lucky for Life and Cash4Life into a singular game as a more advanced product for its players,” the State House News Service previously reported.

The Massachusetts Lottery “did not vote in favor of this change, particularly for the price increase,” Bracken told the outlet, but is “excited to share this new opportunity to win $1 million a year for life with our players in 2026.”

In addition to Massachusetts, other state lotteries with the game include: Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming.
