Rain delays North Carolina Education Lottery 200 to Sunday morning
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – NASCAR postponed the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the third time due to rainy conditions.
The truck series race was initially scheduled to take place Friday evening but was shifted to Saturday, before being pushed to Sunday, May 24, at 10 a.m.
“Crews continued to fight wet weather throughout Saturday before announcing the move to Sunday. Corey Day and Layne Riggs will start on the front row when the green flag flies,” said Charlotte Motor Speedway in a Sunday statement.
The race will run Sunday morning ahead of the sold-out 67th running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
“At the conclusion of the race, crews will sweep the grandstands and reopen gates for Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 ticket holders at 2:30 p.m, ”said a spokesperson.
The green flag for the legendary Coca-Cola 600 i scheduled to wave just after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The epic races come after the tragic death of Two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch shook the NASCAR world. Busch died from severe pneumonia on Thursday, May 21. He was 41.

Busch was set to be honored at the Friday night race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but the moment was postponed due to inclement weather.
NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell spoke to the media on Friday and said the race was still on for Memorial Day weekend, and that Busch would have been “pissed” if they canceled. However, persistent rainfall across Charlotte has already caused multiple delays.

O’Donell also noted that formal tribute ceremonies were being planned in coordination with Busch’s family.
Charlotte Motor Speedway announced that select merchandise profits from the race will be donated to The Bundle of Joy Foundation. Kyle and Samantha Busch founded the nonprofit foundation to support families struggling with infertility.
Additionally, Richard Childress Racing announced that Kyle Busch’s No. 8 will not be used again until his son is ready to race. Busch’s son, Brexton, is 11 years old.
Race officials also said Friday ticket holders who are unable to attend the rescheduled event can check the Speedway Motorsports Weather Guarantee.
