$15 million Oz Lotto winner reveals clever way to increase odds of win: ‘Thought it was fake’

Blocking unknown numbers is something we’re all guilty of, but for one east coast woman it nearly meant blocking a staggering $15 million Oz Lotto win. 

The Sydney woman, from Eastwood, held the only division one winning entry in Tuesday’s $15m draw. 

She boosted her chances of hitting the jackpot by opting for a System 8 entry, which lets players pick eight numbers in a single game instead of seven, creating the equivalent of eight standard games.

But a System ticket costs more.

At $13.20 per game for a System 8 entry, it’s significantly pricier than $1.50 for a standard seven-number game. Players can choose as many as 14 numbers in one game, but that entry would cost you $211.20.

Yahoo News spoke with The Lott’s Khat McIntyre about how System 8 entries work.

“In Oz Lotto, a standard game involves choosing seven numbers. A System 8 entry lets you choose eight numbers, which gives you every possible combination of seven numbers within those eight numbers,” she explained.

“While it appears as one game on the ticket, it’s actually equivalent to eight standard games.

“At the end of the day, System entries give you more chances to win so are popular among many of our players.”

Woman reacts after life-altering win 

For the lucky Sydneysider, it certainly paid off, even though she initially rejected the life-changing call. 

“I can’t believe it, I feel so lucky” the woman said after she got through to The Lott.

“I don’t even know how to put into words how I feel. I’m shocked. I actually blocked your number this morning because I thought it was fake.” 

She said she’d been playing her whole life. 

“Now I can buy a house,” she said. “It’s amazing.”

The winning mother was sitting with her daughter when she received the incredible news.

“I have to make sure she’ll be fine to get home now! I think she’s a bit dizzy,” the daughter joked. 

The winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1678 on Tuesday April 14 were 5, 30, 36, 39, 25, 19 and 2, while the supplementary numbers were 43, 13 and 40.

The winning two-game System 8 QuickPick entry was bought at Eastwood Centre Newsagency in Eastwood.
