Powerball hits $567 million as game goes international ahead of next drawing

Powerball jackpots are about to be much larger. Reporter explains.
USA TODAY’s Fernando Cervantes explains the historic agreement with the UK National Lottery.
- Powerball is expanding internationally, allowing players in the United Kingdom to participate starting July 21.
- The expansion is not expected to change the game’s pricing or how funds are distributed to state programs.
- The current estimated jackpot is $567 million, with the next drawing scheduled for Wednesday, July 22.
The Powerball jackpot prize inches closer to the $600 million mark after the Monday, July 20, drawing.
After no big winners, the Powerball jackpot heads up as the game goes international on Tuesday, July 21. Opening up the lottery game to the United Kingdom means growing prizes in the U.S. as money from sales goes to the overall jackpot prize, according to Powerball.
And it starts with the next drawing.
“Players in the UK will be able to play for the same Powerball jackpot available to players in the United States beginning with the Powerball drawing on Wednesday, July 22,” a release from Powerball stated.
The expansion overseas will not change the game’s pricing, and funds generated via the lottery for education and other programs will still remain.
“Just as importantly, this expansion does not change where the money goes,” said Rebecca Paul, President & CEO of the Tennessee Lottery and former President of the World Lottery Association. “Every Powerball ticket sold in the U.S. will continue to support programs and services right here at home.”
Here are the most recent winning numbers, how and when to buy tickets in South Carolina, and when the next drawing takes place.
