Woman wins huge payday on first-ever scratch-off ticket

GASTONIA, N.C. (WKRC) — A North Carolina woman’s first scratch-off lottery ticket turned into a $100,000 payday after she made an impulse purchase while stopping for gas.
Kahla Jeffries, of Gastonia, said she had never bought a scratch-off ticket before when she decided to purchase a $100,000 Cash Payday ticket.
“That one just caught my eye,” Jeffries said in a media release.
After scratching the ticket, Jeffries realized she had won the game’s top prize.
“I didn’t think I was looking at it right,” she said with a laugh.
Jeffries claimed her prize Friday at North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $72,018.
She said she plans to use the money to buy a car and save for school.
