Deadline To Claim $1 Million Powerball Payout Looms For Texas Winner
On February 2, the Powerball jackpot was worth $65 million. No one matched all 6 numbers drawn for the jackpot that night, but two tickets did match all five non-Powerball numbers. It has been 5 months since that drawing, and the winning ticket sold in Austin has yet to be turned in.
Powerball’s Time Limit For Claiming Money
180 days. That’s how long the owner of a winning ticket for a draw game has to validate their game piece before it expires. This $1 million Powerball ticket will expire on Saturday, August 1. If the winner chooses to claim the prize in person, he or she must do so by 5 pm on Friday, July 31st at any Texas Lottery claim center. After taxes, the actual payout may be closer to $600,000, but that’s still a huge chunk of change to just toss away. Any money that goes unclaimed from a drawing game is channeled back into designated state programs.
