She thought the store’s lottery scanner was broken but she actually won $2.2 million
A 66-year-old woman from Charlevoix County says she had an urge to buy a Millionaire For Life ticket while at the gas station and that urge has now made her a millionaire.
The woman who has chosen to remain anonymous bought the winning ticket at the Mancelona North EZ Mart, which is about 35 miles northeast of Traverse City.
She was able to match the five white balls – 03-15-16-24-28 – in the May 21 drawing to win the big prize.

The excited winner recently made the trip to Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing to turn in her winning ticket and shared how she realized that she had won.
“I’ve been playing Millionaire For Life on and off since the game started earlier this year. I had an urge to buy a ticket while I was out and about one day, so I went to the closest store and bought one.
“The next day I scanned my ticket at a store, and a message came up to contact the lottery office. I thought the scanner was broken, so I went out to my car to check the numbers on MichiganLottery.com. I saw a winning ticket was purchased in Mancelona and then I saw I’d matched all five numbers. I yelled: ‘I just won $2.2 million!’ and did a happy dance in my car.”
This lucky winner isn’t the only person to win big playing the Michigan Lottery.
A man visiting Michigan from Maryland recently won $1,000,000 playing a Lucky Numbers instant win ticket.
A Bay County woman who had been playing Lotto 47 for 20 years with the same numbers hit it big and won $1.1 million.
And an Oakland County woman playing Fantasy 5 online accidentally selected a wrong number that resulted in her winning $250,000.
