Someone out there — maybe it’s you — is reveling in becoming a new millionaire every year for the rest of their life.

The Ohio Lottery on April 28 announced the first jackpot winner in the new Millionaire for Life multi-state game, which began in February.

The winning ticket, purchased at the Giant Eagle at 15325 Edgecliff Ave. in Cleveland, matched all five numbers plus the “Millionaire Ball” in the April 27 drawing. The winner will receive $1 million a year for life.

The winning numbers were 4-15-19-21-31, and the Millionaire Ball was 4.

The winner hasn’t stepped forward to claim his or her prize yet and has 180 days to do so.

Even when they do, the public may not learn who the lucky winner is. Ohio is one of a few states that permit winners to remain anonymous and claim prizes through trusts to keep their identity away from prying eyes.

What is Millionaire for Life?

The Multi-State Lottery Association launched the new daily draw game on Feb. 22. It has a grand prize of $1 million a year for life and a second prize of $100,000 a year for life. Both prizes will be awarded as annuities, with a 20-year guaranteed payout, the lottery said.

Players can also opt for a one-time cash payout.

The daily drawings cost $5.

How does the Millionaire for Life game work?

The game has two pools of numbers, similar to the Powerball and Mega Millions. The first has numbers between 1 and 58, and the second has numbers between 1 and 5. Drawings select five numbers from the first pool and one from the second pool, named the Millionaire Ball.

Matching all five numbers from the first pool and the number from the second pool nets the winner $1 million a year for life, while matching only the five numbers nets the winner $100,000 a year for life.

What are the odds of winning Millionaire for Life?

The odds of winning a prize are 1 in 8.46, and the grand prize odds of 1 in 22.9 million are better than top prize odds in other national lottery games, the lottery said.
