73-year-old Michigan man says he’s ‘set for life’ after winning $1 million jackpot
LANSING, MI — A Macomb County man recently turned a small lottery win into one that has him ”set for life.” The 73-year-old winner — who chose to remain anonymous — brought home a $1 million prize while playing the Michigan Lottery’s Cash Train instant game.
“I bought a Cash Train ticket when the game first came out and won $50, so when I was cashing out at the party store a few weeks later, I bought another ticket,” said the winner. “I scratched all the numbers on the ticket first, and once I was done, I scratched the winning amount. As soon as I saw letters instead of numbers where the prize amount was printed, I knew I won big! I started shaking and couldn’t believe it was real.”
The winner bought his ticket at the Country Party Store, located at 23750 Greater Mack Avenue in Saint Clair Shores. He recently visited Lottery headquarters in Lansing to claim his prize. The player elected to receive the money as a one-time lump sum of $693,000 rather than the annuity.
He plans on saving his winnings.
“You never think this type of thing will happen to you, so I’m still in disbelief. Thanks to my big win, I’m financially set for life,” said the winner.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed an $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.
