Since the end of March, no one in Germany had picked the six correct winning numbers plus the bonus number in the “6 out of 49” lottery—a record. Now, the lottery jackpot, worth the maximum amount of 50 million euros, has been won in Thuringia.
A spokesperson for Bremen-based Toto und Lotto GmbH told the German Press Agency (dpa) that it is still unclear whether a single person or a lottery pool correctly picked the six winning numbers plus the bonus number in the most recent drawing of the “6aus49” game last Saturday.
Since the lottery began in October 1955, it has never taken this long for someone to match all six numbers plus the bonus number. The last time someone won the jackpot was on March 25, 2026, when a person from Bavaria won.
For the “6 out of 49” lottery, the law sets a cap of 50 million euros. If there is a prolonged period without a winner, the starting jackpot for the next draw increases. Due to the long stretch without a jackpot winner, the prize pool recently exceeded 121 million euros.
This means the next jackpot will also start at the maximum amount of 50 million euros. This has never happened before in the more than 70-year history of the German lottery.
