$200K Illinois Lottery Prize Still Unclaimed After 4 Months
You would understand if it took a few days to get your affairs in order before coming forward to claim a lottery prize, but there’s someone in Illinois who walked out of a grocery store with a ticket worth $200,000 four months ago that still hasn’t been identified.
Does this Hy-Vee located at 2115 S MacArthur in Springfield, Illinois look familiar to you?
According to the Illinois Lottery, a mystery person picked up a Powerball ticket in this Hy-Vee store in Springfield on December 15, 2025. That ticket turned out to be a $200,000 winner! The problem is that no one has come forward to claim their prize which is why this money is now listed on the Illinois Lottery Unclaimed Prizes site.
When will this Illinois Lottery prize be forfeited?
The Illinois Lottery says “prizes must be claimed within one year of the drawing” so this person still has time, but after 4 months I’d have to believe that this individual either lost the ticket and/or has no idea they won in the first place.
What would the take home amount be on a $200K Illinois Lottery prize?
Everyone’s tax situation is different, but the Illinois Department of Revenue’s rates show that the winner will end up with around $142,000 after federal and state taxes are taken out. Yes, that’s a big chunk of cash in taxes, but no one I know would refuse a $142,000 win. That would make inflation seem unimportant at least for awhile.
