After $1.8 billion Powerball win in Texas, Missouri, who took the cash in US biggest jackpots?

Three weeks ago, someone bought a Powerball ticket from a QuikTrip gas station and convenience store in St. Louis, Missouri.

Overnight, that man’s life changed when it was revealed that store sold one of two winning tickets in the $1.787 billion Powerball jackpot.

The Missouri Lottery player came forward earlier this week after traveling to lottery headquarters in Jefferson City, to claim his record prize. While there he told the organization, “I’m a millionaire, a multi-millionaire, and I’m doing laundry last night … It’s the best problem I’ve ever had,” a Missouri Lottery news release states. He described sleepless nights between the time he realized his ticket was a winner and the day he made the trip to Jefferson City.

The Missouri Lottery said their state’s Powerball winner “plans to take time off and enjoy the experience. I’m going to just do me for a year,” the winner said, adding that he’s looking forward to spending time with his wife, who now also plans to reduce her workload as a result of the win.

The Missouri winner chose the one-time payment of $410.3 million before taxes.

As of Friday, Sept. 26, almost three weeks since the historic drawing, no one has come forward from Texas to claim their share of the $1.8 billion Powerball prize, the second largest lottery prize in U.S. history.

So far, Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots have reached $1 billion 13 times in history. The Sept. 6, 2025, Powerball drawing resulted in the latest billion-dollar lottery winner. It was the first billion-dollar jackpot this year. In 2023, lottery players saw four billion-dollar lottery jackpots, and there were three billion-dollar totals in 2024.
