Powerball Big Win – South Louisiana Ticket Wins $50,000

(KMDL-FM) Louisiana currently has $4.2 million in unclaimed Powerball prizes, according to the Unclaimed Prize report made available by the Louisiana Lottery. Over the weekend, another $50,000 win was added to that total. That big money win came in the multi-state lottery game Powerball.

The other big money game in play in Louisiana on Saturday night was the Lotto game. That is a Louisiana-based game, and the jackpot in Lotto has not been won since January 14th. That explains why the jackpot total is $1.65 million. Based on details provided by the Louisiana Lottery, it looks as if that jackpot will continue to grow as well.

How Much Was the Powerball Jackpot for Saturday, May 16, 2026?

Saturday’s top prize in the Powerball game was estimated to be $89.4 million. Saturday’s game was the sixth drawing since Powerball last got a jackpot winner on May 2, 2026. In that game, a single ticket earned a prize of $20 million. In the drawing before that on April 29, 2026, two tickets split a jackpot prize of $143.4 million.

According to the Louisiana Lottery, the last time a Louisiana-sold ticket earned a Powerball jackpot was in 2018 when a ticket sold in Lafayette earned a $55.9 million prize. But if you will recall, in the April 29th Powerball drawing, 11 tickets sold in Louisiana earned a prize of $1 million or more. In fact, five of those tickets earned a prize of $2 million in that drawing.

Our sources at Powerball and the Louisiana Lottery confirmed that no tickets sold over the Powerball footprint matched all the numbers needed to claim the jackpot prize. A ticket sold in Georgia matched all five of the white balls, earning a prize of one million dollars. That was the highest single prize awarded in Saturday’s drawing.

As far as the “big win” in Louisiana is concerned, we only had one ticket sold in the state that earned a five-figure prize. After the $50,000 win, the prize drop-off is dramatic. The next highest prize won by a Louisiana-sold ticket is $300. Four tickets earned that prize. Another five tickets earned a prize of $100.

The $50,000 winner in Saturday’s Powerball was sold at a Circle K store in Plaquemine, Louisiana. The player matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball. They did not opt for the Power Play function of the game. If they did, they’d be looking at a prize of $150,000.

The next  Powerball drawing is scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026. The estimated top prize in that drawing will be $100 million.
