Brunswick County woman wins six-figure lottery prize from scratch-off – AOL

The North Carolina Education Lottery’s Cash Payday game debuted in March with 80 top prizes of $100,000 available to be won.
A Brunswick County woman just netted a significant sum from a winning scratch-off ticket, according to a news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.
You Zhu of Leland purchased a $30 Cash Payday scratch-off ticket from the Leland Walmart on New Pointe Boulevard, and it ended up being a winner, the release stated. Zhu won $100,000 — one of 80 of the Cash Payday game’s top prizes.
According to the release, Zhu arrived at the lottery headquarters on Monday, May 11 to collect her winnings. After state and federal taxes, she took home $72,018.

According to the N.C. Education Lottery, the Cash Payday game debuted in March 2026, and 68 of the 80 top prizes remain to be won.
“Education programs in Brunswick County received $6.3 million in support from lottery funds last year,” the N.C. Education Lottery said.
