Despite growing excitement, the odds remain extremely long. A single ticket has roughly a 1 in 292.2 million chance of winning the Powerball jackpot, making it one of the most difficult lottery prizes to claim.

Anyone who wins will face an important financial decision. Jackpot winners may receive the full advertised prize through annual payments spread over 30 years or accept a reduced lump-sum cash option. Federal taxes are automatically withheld from cash payouts, while additional state taxes depend on where the winner lives.
