Winning a cash prize is a dream for many, but the chances of landing a top lottery jackpot – whether it’s Powerball or even a scratch card – can feel like a long shot. Yet some people seem to have luck on their side. In rare cases, it even strikes twice in a single day.
This was the case for one extraordinarily fortunate man from the States, who raked in about £272k on a scratch card one day – only to land a further £13.6k on a second card (after tax).
Unnamed, the enigmatic Ohio player opted for a massive lump sum when he scored on the “Millionaire Blowout” game. His grand total was nearly 286k, and it seems he has big plans for the cash.
As many prospective winners might wish, he’s treating himself to an extended holiday and a motor, although he says he’ll also hand over some to his kids and top up his nest egg.

At just 21, Iowa resident Timothy Schultz hit the jackpot, winning $28 million. But years later, he says the experience taught him hard lessons — and he has a few cautionary words he would share with his younger self.
He stated: “I’d probably start by saying, ‘Buckle up’. That dream of winning is about to become reality, and your life is going to change faster than you can possibly imagine.”
Following his win, Timothy said he was sent “stacks of letters from strangers asking for help”, as reported by UNILAD. He continued: “Lending money could quickly complicate even a close friendship.”
Speaking to Fox News about the matter, he said: “Most people were supportive and happy for me, but I did receive stacks of letters from people asking for money.”
He also explained that some saw him as a “walking, talking ATM machine”.

Powerball’s jackpots have reached eye-watering levels in recent years. Just three years ago, the top prize soared to a record $2.04 billion — the biggest Powerball jackpot ever — and was claimed by Edwin Castro.
More recently, an Arkansas-bought ticket landed an approximate £1.3 billion win, which was billed at the time as one of the largest lottery payouts in US history.
The odds of matching all the numbers were still the same long shot: roughly one in 292.2 million. It was also only the second time Arkansas had produced a Powerball jackpot winner.
The game has now crossed the Atlantic to the UK, where the latest jackpot has climbed past £372.4 million. Any winner would receive the money as an annuity, paid in 30 yearly instalments — more than £12 million each year.
