Players are being asked by lottery officials to pay attention to their tickets because of a meeting coming up soon regarding an unclaimed prize in northern New Jersey. The New Jersey Lottery confirmed there is still a winning ticket worth $50,000 unclaimed.

According to the New Jersey Lottery, $50,000 has been left unclaimed from a Powerball drawing that took place on May 3, 2025 at D’Latinos Beauty Supply located on Bergenline Avenue in West New York. New Jersey Lottery winners have until May 3, 2026 to redeem their tickets; however, the deadline to collect this prize is approaching quickly.

Officials say there are only about two weeks left before the ticket expires.

Details about the unclaimed winning ticket

A prize worth $50,000 was awarded to a winner who correctly matched the required Powerball number combination in the game’s latest draw but hasn’t claimed their prize yet. Consequently, if the person holding the winning ticket doesn’t act soon, the prize can be unclaimed.

There is also another large unclaimed prize at stake, a $5900000 Pick 6 jackpot that was sold in Roseland (Essex County) which will be claimed on May 22nd. This demonstrates that sometimes even a large unclaimed prize exists due to players forgetting about their ticket or simply not knowing they have winning numbers.

How to check your lottery tickets

The New Jersey Lottery is urging everyone who bought tickets around that time to check them as soon as possible.

There are simple ways to do this:

  • Scan your ticket using the official lottery mobile app
  • Enter the numbers manually on the lottery website
  • Visit a local retailer to have your ticket checked

Officials remind players that it only takes a few minutes to check but it could lead to a life changing prize.

What happens if the prize is not claimed

If no one claims the winnings by the deadline, the funds will not be awarded to someone else, as they would not meet this eligibility criterion. In many cases where there is no eligible claimant, the prize funds will revert to the state government or be used in support of public programs.

That is why we continue to remind players: check your old tickets! Be sure to check your early May 2025 ticket!
