Winning Powerball Jackpot ticket worth millions sold at Leander gas station

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Someone hit it big in Leander after purchasing a winning lottery ticket in the May 2 drawing for the Powerball Jackpot.

The Texas Lottery said in a press release Sunday that a winning Quick Pick ticket in the $20 million Powerball Grand Prize was sold at a QuikTrip on East Crystal Falls Parkway in Leander.

The Texas Lottery player chose the cash value option at the time of their purchase, and the ticket was worth about $4.5 million before taxes, the Texas Lottery said in the release, citing the Multi-State Lottery Association.

The winner has yet to come forward to claim the prize, but has 180 days from the drawing date to do so.

The winning ticket matched all six numbers drawn (25-37-42-52-65, Powerball 14). A second jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Florida, so the two winners will share the grand prize, according to the release.

The QuikTrip that sold the winning ticket may also get a prize of its own just for selling the ticket. According to the Texas Lottery, the gas station may be eligible for a $250,000 retailer bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket under the Texas Lottery’s Retailer Bonus Program.

Overall, 29,421 winning Powerball tickets — with prizes ranging from $4 to the jackpot prize — were purchased in the state for Saturday’s drawing, according to the Texas Lottery.

“If you believe you have the jackpot-winning ticket, we recommend you sign it, keep it in a safe place, seek financial and legal advice and then call the Texas Lottery to schedule an appointment to claim the prize,” Courtney Arbour, executive director of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), said in the press release. “We also want to remind the public that intentionally or knowingly attempting to claim a lottery prize by fraud, deceit or misrepresentation is a criminal offense in Texas.”
