Groton pair claim $9.8 million lottery jackpot – The Ithaca Voice
ITHACA, N.Y. – Over a month after all six numbers were matched in the May 2 New York LOTTO drawing, a Groton couple has come forward to claim the prize.
Kim and Gary Van Benschoten chose to split the $9.8 million jackpot evenly, according to the New York Lottery Tuesday.
They will each receive approximately $2.5 million, representing half of the cash value of the annuitized prize.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Speedway located at 202 Main St. in Groton. The winning numbers were 8, 13, 28, 35, 49 and 54. The bonus number was 16.
During the 2024-25 fiscal year, Tompkins County school districts received more than $14 million in Lottery Aid to Education funding.
