Pharma giants slam ‘appalling’ postcode lottery for weight loss drugs

Global pharmaceutical giants stepped up pressure on the Albanese government to subsidise weight-loss drugs, releasing data showing people in Sydney’s west and regional areas are 34 per cent less likely to buy the medicines than affluent city residents.
US drugmaker Eli Lilly accused the advisory body which decides which drugs go on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme of not taking obesity seriously, arguing the economic burden on the health system from doing nothing would outweigh the cost of subsidies.
